William “Bill” G. Hasbrouck, 90, a resident of Gilsum and formerly of New York, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 12, 2026, with loving family near.
Born to the late Hazel (Meyer) and John E.R. Hasbrouck on October 7, 1935, he grew up in New City, NY. Bill was educated and graduated from Congers High School class of 1953. After graduation Bill continued his formal education, earning his Bachelor of Arts degree in Bible and Missions from Providence Barrington College in Providence, RI.
On August 30, 1958, William exchanged vows with the love of his life, Edith J. Ball. They had a simple ceremony at Sturtevant Chapel in Keene with family and friends celebrating their union which lasted nearly 68 years.
Bill started a plumbing and heating business, Hasbrouck Associates, in the early 1970s and operated it until he retired in 2000. He was also the owner and operator of Hasbrouck Apartments in Rindge.
Bill was a man of many talents and interests who found joy in working with his hands and spending time with those he loved. He had a lifelong passion for mechanical repairs and woodworking and was always willing to lend a hand or tackle a new project. Bill especially enjoyed tractor pulling, a hobby that brought him great joy and fond memories. Family was at the center of Bill’s life. He cherished every opportunity to attend family events and treasured the time he spent with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, who brought him endless pride and happiness.
Bill was a faithful member of Sturtevant Chapel, where he regularly warmly welcomed others as a church greeter. He served in several offices over the years and was always willing to lend a hand when needed. He also dedicated 30 years of service to the town of Gilsum, serving as a member of the Board of Selectmen, and served many years on the Budget committee for Monadnock school district. His commitment to his community reflected his generous spirit, strong work ethic, and desire to make a positive difference in the lives of those around him.
Bill will be remembered for his kindness, unwavering dedication to his family, church and community, and the lasting impact he made on all who knew him.
Mr. Hasbrouck is survived by his beloved wife, Edith Hasbrouck of Gilsum, their four children, Thomas R. Hasbrouck and wife, Lois of Gorham, ME., Joyce V. Hasbrouck of Accomac, VA, Sally A. Ellington and husband, Donald of Acworth, GA., and Peter W. Hasbrouck and wife, Caryn of South Portland, ME. He is also survived by 16 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, and many cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. William was predeceased by his parents, and his three brothers, Richard, James and Stephen.
The calling hour will take place at Sturtevant Chapel, from 9:30 – 10:30 am on Saturday, August 29, 2026. A celebration of life service will follow at 11:00 am. The Chapel is located at 15 Washington St. Keene, NH. 03431. A private burial will follow in the family lot at Centennial Cemetery in Gilsum, NH. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Sturtevant Chapel in Bill’s memory.
