Theodore H. Moe Jr.

September 5, 1934 — March 20, 2026

Theodore H. "Ted" Moe, Jr., 91, died peacefully on March 20, 2026, in his home at Langdon Place of Keene. He was born on Sept. 5, 1934, in South St Paul, Minnesota, and moved to Keene in 1939 with his parents and sister. Ted graduated from Keene High School and then served in the Air Force as an MP.

In 1962, Ted married the love of his life Bonnie (Dargie) and they had two daughters, Jennifer (Moe) White of Keene, and Carolyn "Lindy" (Moe) Paris, of Marlborough. Ted and Bonnie lived in East Swanzey for 40 years, where Ted was Postmaster and also served as selectman. He retired in 1997 having worked for the Postal Service for over 30 years, after overseeing the establishment of the newly expanded Post Office in Swanzey Center.

Ted was a clever handyman and wood worker. He loved the outdoors and tinkering with his various antique cars. He and Bonnie enjoyed going to car shows with their "car crew" which often included picnics. They also traveled to various locales, from Disney World to Alaska to Italy, cruising in the Caribbean, and the Grand Canyon. Later, they went on a dream road trip across the country that included Yellowstone Park. On nice summer days, they were known to drive off in their 1971 cutlass convertible to Perkins Cove for an impromptu lunch at the ocean.

In 1984, Ted organized "Four Minutes for Peace" by writing to national and world leaders as well as to media outlets, which resulted in four minutes of silence dedicated to promoting world peace. Thousands of people around the world participated in this on 4/4/84.

Later in his life, his pride and joy were his grandchildren, with whom he shared many lovely memories. His favorite day each year was the annual family picnic to Vermont, when everyone would crowd into a rented van and picnic on the common in Weston- a forty-year tradition.

Ted is survived by his daughters, Jennifer (Moe) White (Tom) of Keene, Carolyn "Lindy" (Moe) Paris (Luca) of Marlborough, and Shelly Chandler of Keene; his grandchildren, Robin and Connor White, Xander and Isabella Paris, Alyx Scott, Jena Rutter and Derrick Boucher; his niece, Nancyann (Dennis) Walsh of Attleboro, MA; and several great grandchildren. He is predeceased by his wife, Bonnie, and sister, Nancy.

A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held on Sunday, April 26, 2026, at 12:30PM at Cheshire Family Funeral Home, 44 Maple Ave, Keene.

In lieu of flowers, Ted asked that donations be made to Keene Community Kitchen or Hundred Nights Shelter in Keene, should one be so inclined.
