Erving, MA

Stanley J. Gradowski, Jr., 82, of Erving, MA, passed away on September 29, 2025. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Marguerite “Peg” Gradowski of 37 years, who passed on December 28, 2024.

Stanley was born on December 21, 1942, in Holden, MA, the son of the late Stanley and Florence (Grenier) Gradowski. He was raised in Rutland, MA, and graduated from Wachusett Regional High School. After graduation, he joined the U.S. Army and was stationed in Turkey before serving in Vietnam as part of the 7th Special Forces Group, where he earned the Bronze Star for his bravery and dedication.

Upon returning home, Stanley entered the Massachusetts State Police Academy in 1970 and went on to serve the Commonwealth with distinction for 30 years, retiring in 2001 as a proud Trooper. Over the course of his career, he was a member of the Massachusetts State Police Underwater Recovery Unit (dive team) and served as a Field Training Officer, guiding and mentoring many new recruits who carried forward his legacy of service.

A man of great faith, Stanley was a longtime member of Our Lady of Czestochowa Church in Turners Falls. His faith was a source of strength and comfort throughout his life.
Stanley was also a lifetime member of the Millers Falls Rod and Gun Club, where he was a permanent fixture, always ready to lend a hand. He had many dear friends there and was devoted to helping with events and supporting the club’s community. He was also a member of the Montague Elks Lodge #2521.

He and Peg loved traveling together and cherished their time at their places in Virginia and Maine. Stanley also had a lifelong love of big dogs, especially Newfoundlands, which were always part of his home and family.

Beyond his service and devotion, Stanley was known for his gift of storytelling, his charismatic personality, and his unique sense of humor. He was always kidding around, ready with a joke or a funny remark, and he had a way of making people feel welcomed and at ease. His lighthearted spirit and laughter will be remembered fondly.

Stanley is survived by his son, Gary Squires of Erving, MA, and his partner, Janice Momaney; his granddaughter, Briana, and great-granddaughter, Raelynn, both of Keene, NH; his sisters, Lynne McGlynn and her husband, Dan, of Rutland, MA, Anne Poole and her husband, Billy, of Barre, MA; his sister-in-law, Deb Gradowski: Jacki Mailloux and her husband, Mark, whom he considered a daughter and son-in-law; as well as many beloved cousins, nieces, and nephews. He was predeceased by his daughter, Alista Gradowski; his grandson, Matthew Squires; and three brothers, Dennis, Paul, and Wayne Gradowski.

Stanley will be remembered for his service, strength, unique humor, faith, and the love he shared with his family, friends, and community.
