Robert (Bob) Kiendl Hamshaw, 79, of Peterborough, New Hampshire passed away on Wednesday, May 20, 2026. Born on June 15, 1946, in Kansas City, Missouri, he was the son of the late Samuel James and Jean (Kiendl) Hamshaw of Marlborough, New Hampshire.
Bob grew up in Garden City, Long Island and he graduated high school from Garden City Waldorf School. He attended American University in Washington, D.C. where he earned his bachelor's degree. He was drafted into the United States Army where he honorably served his country in the Vietnam War as a military police officer. Upon his return, he continued his military police service at the Presidio in San Francisco, California for two years. Following his military service, he returned to the east coast and received his master's degree in Accounting at New York University.
Bob worked in his early financial career for Hanseatic Corporation in New York City, and then joined Quadrant Capital Advisors, an investment advisory firm in Manhattan where he worked until his retirement in 2015. His financial advising career included travels throughout the world and brought him long-time and valued relationships with clients, particularly the Santo Domingo family of Colombia. Over the years Bob also advised and contributed to the growth and development of Hamshaw Lumber, Inc. Keene, New Hampshire founded by his brother, Doug Hamshaw.
While a resident of New York City, Bob particularly enjoyed music and frequently attended concerts at the New York Philharmonic at Lincoln Center, offerings at Carnegie Hall, and performances at the Metropolitan Opera.
Bob developed a deep love for New Hampshire, where he built a summer home. Nearby was Camp Glen Brook where Bob and his brother, Doug, had attended as boys. He enjoyed watching the camp grow and supported it along the way. Following his retirement, he and his partner Diane moved to Harrisville and made New Hampshire their permanent home.
Bob greatly enjoyed fishing and bird hunting with his dogs and spending time outdoors. He loved his dogs Fritz, a Wirehaired Pointing Griffon, and Carey, a Standard Poodle. Bob also loved grilling and barbecues with the company of family and friends, where he always shared his sarcastic wit and dry sense of humor. In 2018, Bob and Diane moved to RiverMead senior living community in Peterborough, NH where they received excellent care.
Throughout his life, Bob was a devoted member of the Episcopalian Church where he also often sang in the choir. He was a parishioner of St. Thomas Church in New York City, St. James Church in Keene, Emmanuel Church in Dublin, and All Saints Church in Peterborough, among others. He was a generous supporter of many local organizations, groups, and churches.
He is survived by his longtime partner Diane Mayer; his daughter Eugenia Hamshaw and her mother, Rallou Hamshaw; his brother Douglas Hamshaw and wife Marianne; niece Elizabeth Hamshaw; nephews Kenneth Hamshaw (wife Anny) and Scott Hamshaw (wife Kelly); and great niece and nephews Camille, Evan, Simon, and Owen.
The family would like to thank Maria Towers for her outstanding care and loving support of Bob over the past five years.
