Obituary

It is with great sadness we share our loving mother, Pat Warren passed away peacefully on October 21, 2026.

Patricia Ann (Walsh) Warren was born on March 4, 1943, in Boston and grew up in Waltham, Massachusetts. She was born into a large Irish Catholic family. Her parents, William and Margaret Walsh, and sister Mary (Walsh) Travers played a significant role in her early years. As a child, Pat spent summers on the beaches of Green Harbor and Scituate, Massachusetts, which sparked her lifelong love of the ocean and lighthouses. Pat attended nursing school at St. Elizabeth's School of Nursing in Brighton, graduating in 1964. She married Peter Warren, and together they lived in northern New Hampshire, before settling in Keene, NH; where Pat remained in the same home for the next 50 years. Though Peter passed away far too soon, she never remarried. Their marriage gave her the three most important things in her life: her sons, Pete, Bill and Dan. Pat raised her boys on her own, worked hard and retired from nursing after working at Cedarcrest Center for Children with Disabilities, where she cared for many children and touched many lives. She also taught many LNA courses to future caregivers. She found joy with her garden club outings and spoke fondly of their adventures.

A true New Englander, Pat showed her love through her actions. Quick with a chuckle, she had a huge heart and was a caregiver both at work and at home. Throughout her sons' childhoods, Pat was involved in their interests, volunteering with organizations like the Boy Scouts, Dolphins swim team, Little League and Keene football. As her sons grew older, Pat opened her home to numerous honorary sons who camped out in her basement, ate her food, caused mayhem, and ultimately became part of her extended family. She loved being surrounded by the humor and chaos of "the basement boys." Pat was a lifelong football fan and loved Joe Montana, Dan Marino and Tom Brady. She was an avid reader who happily revisited her favorite books again and again. She also loved crosswords, knitting, and cross-stitch, which she lovingly did to represent her family through framed family scenes, knit afghans, pillows and blankets, she made for the grandkids; whom she loved to show off.

Pat famously appreciated a nice cut of meat, as long as it was cooked extra well done, then microwaved for good measure.

In the summer of 1980 after Peter passed away, through some mutual friends, she discovered Papoose Pond Campground, which from then on, held a special place in her heart. She camped there every year for the rest of her life, including last summer - mostly with her boys and various basement boys in tow. Her favorite spot was the remote treehouse campsite, where she always chose to stay. When we were kids, she'd make up stories during car rides of adventures about Aunt Pauline, who lived in a treehouse; the irony must have made her happy.

She loved the holidays and she decorated for all of them. She was always dressing up as a witch for Halloween, keeping a yearly tally of trick-or-treaters, and handing out over-the-top "Grammie Bags" to family members at Christmas. She loved spending as much time as she could with her whole family around her.

Pat was proud of all her grandchildren. She was always front row center and regularly cheered them on at Keene football games, soccer, ballet, gymnastics and drama plays. Pat told and retold her highlight reel of life stories to those around her. Thankfully, those stories are one of the many ways Pat will live on with us as we move forward without her.

She will leave a large void in all of our lives. Pat is survived by her sons, Pete (Marcy), Bill (Emily), and Dan (Amy); her grandchildren, Kaitlyn, William Cooper, James, Jonathan, Haleigh, and Margaret Warren; her sister, Mary (Walsh) Travers; and her many honorary sons (the basement boys).

Pat's family is deeply grateful to the caregivers at Langdon Place of Keene and Cheshire Medical Center nurses and doctors for the care and comfort they gave her in her final months and weeks.

A funeral mass will be held at St. Margaret Mary's, 35 Arch St. Keene, NH, on November 16 at 11am. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Pat's memory to Cedarcrest Center for Children with Disabilities, in Keene, NH.
