Obituary

Marveline J. (Blair) Garand, 86, a resident of Swanzey, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 8, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family at the Jack Byrne Center in Lebanon.

She was born in San Antonio, Texas, on January 2, 1940, the daughter of the late Celeste Oladko and Marvin Blair. Marveline was raised and educated in Connecticut.

On December 12, 1960, Marveline married the love of her life, Kenneth "Ken" Garand, in an intimate ceremony in White Plains, New York. Together, they shared over 65 years of marriage, building a life centered on family, devotion, and love.

Marveline dedicated her life to her family as a homemaker, taking great pride in caring for her home and raising her children. Marveline managed the Elmwood Equestrian Club in South Salem, NY.

She found immense joy in life's simple pleasures and creative pursuits. An accomplished painter, Marveline expressed her artistic talents beautifully on canvas. She was also an avid equestrian who cherished the time spent with her beloved horse, Lady. Her hands were rarely still; she loved tending to her garden, cooking, and baking delicious meals for family and friends. A familiar face in her community, Marveline was a dedicated member of both the Swanzey Garden Club and the First Congregational Church of Swanzey, where she formed many lasting, cherished friendships.

She is survived by her beloved husband, Kenneth "Ken" Garand of Swanzey; her two daughters, Gail DeRosa and her husband, Robert, of Keene, and Diane Kelley and her husband, Andy, of New York; her five grandchildren, Troy, Jacqueline, Dylan, Samantha, and Sarah; and her six great-grandchildren, Brandon, Adriana, Charlie, Lilliana, Wren, and Charles. She also leaves behind many cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends. Marveline was predeceased by her parents and her sister, Nancy Blair and brother Charles Oladko.

A private graveside service will be held in the family lot at Mount Caesar Cemetery in Swanzey.

All services are under the care of Cheshire Family Funeral Home and Crematories, Keene. (www.cheshirefamilyfh.com)
