Elaine Bemis

Elaine Ruth Bemis (Polishan) 82 a life long resident of Swanzey passed away in the comfort of her home after a period of failing health on March 1, 2025. Born in Peterborough, NH on October 29, 1942, she was the daughter of the late Stephen and Cecilia (Caisse) Polishan. She was a graduate of Keene High School and also attended hairdressing school after graduation. She married her teenage sweetheart, Ron in February 1963 and had spent a wonderful life with him for a total of 68 years. The most important part of Elaine’s life was family. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was especially proud of her children and grandchildren. Elaine was a kind, loving and a giving person who truly cherished every moment with her family. She loved all New England sports, especially the Bruins and Patriots. She also attended many NASCAR races over the years. She loved the beach and warm weather, enjoyed reading and spent many hours doing puzzles with her husband. Elaine and Ron owned and operated a small convenience store, Swanzey Center Market in The 1980’s. She also took great pride in her small business of selling secondhand baby items and opened The Little Tot Shop. She also worked at Knotty Pine Antiques where she found her passion for antiques and spent many summers in Newfane and Wilmington, VT at the flea markets. She enjoyed traveling with her husband and lived in Florida for a time before moving back to NH to be closer with family. Elaine is survived by her husband, Ron and their three children and their spouses. Darrin Bemis and his wife Shari of Swanzey, Rhonda Beal and her husband Shawn of Swanzey and Karen Morris and her husband Jim of Sanford, Maine. Four grandchildren, Jenna Bemis, Matthew Beal of Swanzey, Patrick Morris and his wife Catherine of Ladson, SC and Elaina-Rose Pace and her husband Mackenzie of Swanzey. Two great grandchildren, Kennedy Beal of Georgia and Vivian-Rose Pace of Swanzey. A brother, Garry Polishan of Swanzey. There will be no calling hours. Services will be held privately.
