David “Jr” George Matson II, 47, of Troy, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 26, 2026, while surrounded by his family and girlfriend Randi. Born on May 14, 1979, in Keene, NH, he was the son of David George Matson and Terry Jane McDonald.
David grew up in Troy, NH and graduated from Monadnock High School. A true jack of all trades, he was always keeping busy whether building, fixing, creating, or learning something new, he found joy in working with his hands and always seemed to have another project in mind. During his high school years, he played on the school’s baseball team, sparking a lifelong love of softball. He went on to play for several softball teams throughout the years, enjoying both the game and the friendships it brought into his life. An avid Red Sox and Patriots fan, he cherished spending time with his family and enjoying the great outdoors. He loved snowmobiling, four-wheeling, and taking his truck out into the woods. He also had a deep appreciation for music, which was always a source of enjoyment and comfort throughout his life.
If you asked anyone who knew David, they would tell you that he had a way of lighting up every room he walked into. His wonderful sense of humor, warm personality, and genuine love for others left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know him. David was deeply protective of his family, especially his beloved daughter. He had a generous heart and was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need, never hesitating to be there for those who needed him.
He is survived by his loving daughter Addison “Soony” Matson of Jaffrey; father David Matson and wife Leslie of Troy; mother Terry Jane McDonald of Troy; sister Renee Snow and husband Arthur of Troy; girlfriend Randi Vaillancourt of Hinsdale; step-brother Harlan Eno; nieces Chelsie Thibault and husband Jeffrey of Jaffrey, Alyssa Cote and husband Derek of Jaffrey, Colby Stevenson and husband Ryan of Winchendon; 5 great nephews; 1 great niece; many aunts, uncles, cousins, friends; and his dog Seven. He is predeceased by his stepfather Charles McDonald; maternal grandparents Roger Selecky and Priscilla Ryan; and paternal grandparents Wilfred and Phyliss Matson.
A Celebration of Life will be held from 5PM to 9PM on Friday, October 9, 2026, at the American Legion, 20 Webster St, Jaffrey, NH.
