Evan James Laughlin

Evan James Laughlin, 43, of Keene, passed away in the comfort of his own home on Tuesday, May 7, 2024. Evan was born to Nadine E. (Gravel) Laughlin and Christopher M. Laughlin on January 19, 1981, in Morristown, NJ. Evan graduated from Dublin School, class of 1999, and continued his education at Savannah College of Art and Design in Georgia where he earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in photography. Evan’s greatest love was his son Wesley. Their loving warmth together was full of adventure, discovery, and delight especially in the wonders of nature and the joys of play. Evan was funny, kind, generous, and playful with everyone, especially with Wes and his big brother Henry. He was a devoted friend to many interesting and colorful characters from all walks of life. His smiling eyes shined with a child’s mischievous sparkle. His voice was warm and reassuring. In his writing, photography, and painting he expressed life in extraordinary ways, energetically portraying both the troubles and beauties of life. Evan was an expert sailor. He loved the wide openness of lakes, sky, wind, ocean, and beaches. In the hills he explored the rocky backroads in his jeep, photographing and painting, late into the night and into the sunrise. Evan J. LaughlinEvan found peace and magical inspiration in nature. He loved the woodland trails, streams, and the turning of seasons, especially toward spring. He grew sunflowers and vegetables in his circular garden. He liked salamanders, turtles, frogs, and loons, and making maple syrup with Wes. Evan joyously loved all his family, especially his wonderful young son Wesley. Evan James Laughlin is survived by his son Wesley James Laughlin, also by his friend and co-parent Brittany Brown and her son Henry Everard of Keene, by Evan’s mother Nadine Laughlin of Keene, and his Evan J. Laughlinfather Christopher “Buzzy” Laughlin of Nelson. He is also survived by his sister Eliza and her husband Jeff Murphy of Keene, his brother Cory and partner Hannah Mann of Fort Pierce, FL, by his brother Chris and wife Sarah Boyd of Melbourne, Australia, along with six nephews, one niece, a large extended family, and many friends. A memorial service and celebration of life will be held at the Nelson Congregational Church on Friday, June 21st at 3:30 pm. All are welcome.
