Alan Garner Gibson

Alan G. Gibson, 67, of Troy, NH, passed away peacefully on November 3, 2024. He was born on March 3, 1957, son of the late James Glover and Mary Lee (McKean) Gibson. Al was a proud Marine Veteran, first and foremost. He was an avid motorcyclist, having traveled across the country on his KZ1000 following his Honorable Discharge from the Marines to NH where he would reside for the rest of his life, beginning in Peterborough, then Antrim, and finally Troy. In his later years he began racing motorcycles on many tracks, having grown tired of riding on the streets. He worked on his own motorcycles and was adept at taking them apart and putting them back together. He enjoyed many hikes up Mount Monadnock with his friends, almost every weekend for many years. He was an accomplished weightlifter and won many competitions. He had an affinity for water skiing as well, and spent many days on the water with his close friends. He was often seen playing golf at Bretwood Golf Course in Keene after work. Al worked at Markem-Imaje in Keene for almost his entire career as a mechanical engineer where he made many lifelong friends, he was a fixture among his work community and had travelled around the world training companies on machines he engineered. One thing he may not have been all that vocal about was his love for animals, he always had cats as companions. As a testament to his love for them, he has donated his entire estate to the Monadnock Humane Society in Swanzey, NH. He is survived by his sister, Sue Gibson Shaw and her husband Brad of Lebanon, NH, a nephew Keith Shaw of Enfield, NH, and niece Sarah Shaw of Belmont, NH. He is also survived by many close friends. Alan was a force to be reckoned with, and beneath his tough exterior, he cared for and loved his family and friends very deeply. A Celebration of Life will be held on December 7, 2024 from 1-4pm at the Monadnock Country Club, 49 High St.in Peterborough, NH. Alan will be laid to rest on Wednesday, June 11 at 11am at the New Hampshire State Veterans Cemetery, 110 Daniel Webster HWY, Boscawen, NH. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Monadnock Humane Society in his name.
